Tips for success:
Set a regular time to practice most weekdays
Let your child choose from 2 or 3 time suggestions
Stick with a routine - it becomes a habit and leads to progress
Parents should practice with their child, reminding them of what took place in class
Check the blog for the weekly homework goals
Focus the effort: Write specific homework goals on a chart
Practice each goal on the chart and check off when done
Repeat each item a number of times for muscle learning of skills/hand-eye coordination
Be fair: if you say 5 times, or 15 min. stick to the promise
Reading music: Use a pencil to point at each note. This focuses their attention and helps both of you to learn
Reward each small step with comments that relate to the goal (good bow grip/nice sound/straight bow/correct reading of notes/full bow, etc.)
Verbally Express YOUR JOY in YOUR CHILD'S MUSIC: "I like that song", "I am proud of you" "This is such a special time together" "You are making great progress on your reading"
